The problem is not that we aren’t praying, the problem is that we give up. Pray and don’t give up! There are so many times in life where we feel as though God is ignoring us, or he’s not listening, or that He’s taking too long. Pastor Tyrone McDonald blessed us with a word inspired by Luke 18, the parable of the persistent widow. “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care about men, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually wear me out with her coming!”
Pastor Tyrone McDonald proceeds to explain that the widow has a problem, she’s helpless, but she’s going to the one who has the authority to change the situation. It didn’t matter that he didn’t fear God, or that he didn’t care about people, the widow held him to the responsibility of the office of which he held. Just like the widow we have a problem and we need to go to the One who can change our situation. We can say God I’m coming to you based on the promise, based on your word. And His word says that He will answer us, quickly. We think quickly means our time. In this microwave generation we’ve lost all sense of process and patience. But God is saying all things will be given to you in due time, in MY time. He knows when to give you what you are asking for. There are so many things that we ask for that we are not ready for. God is not denying you, He’s delaying you, for YOUR good. We don’t know what lies ahead but God does. We don’t know the end result of that blessing you’re asking for but we do know that our God is always on time. We do know that His ways are perfect. We do know that He loves us. So when God doesn’t answer us immediately, or makes us wait on something we can trust in his plan. We can trust that He is working all things together for our good because we are called according to His purpose. We can trust that He is doing something in us even while we wait. Our God is not caught off guard by any of our circumstances. All He is asking us to do is pray, and to pray in faith, and to never stop praying until you see a breakthrough. Pray with expectancy. Pray like your life depended on it, because it does. Pray and don’t give up.
